Did You Know?
Epinephrine
Epinephrine (adrenalin) is a hormone released by our adrenal glands. It is usually released in response to severe stress, regulating blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. During anaphylactic reactions, epinephrine serves to control the reaction’s signs and symptoms. People with known allergies and a history of anaphylaxis usually have epinephrine pens with them for emergency use. As a first aider, if you notice a person is starting to experience anaphylaxis or has been exposed to an allergen, assist in injecting the epinephrine with permission from the victim. Once the victim’s condition is stable, be sure to seek help from the emergency room for further work up.
