Did You Know?

Blisters

Blisters are caused by minor burn injuries or the application of heat or friction to a body part. We usually find them when we’ve been splashed by hot oil when cooking or when we break in new shoes. If a blister is painless, try to avoid popping it to get rid of the fluid. The fluid is actually protecting the skin underneath the top layer of skin (the epidermis) from injury and infection. If you break the skin and remove the fluid, it increases the risk of infection. Cover a blister with a band-aid if it’s small enough, and use a plastic-coated gauze pad (this absorbs moisture) for bigger blisters.
