Severe fluid loss
One of the most dangerous causes of fluid loss is severe or heavy bleeding. Severe bleeding is usually caused by severe trauma from an accident, which can manifest as internal or external bleeding.
What to do for severe bleeding cases
- Assist victim to lie down. Cover him/her with a blanket or additional clothing. Elevate lower limbs slightly higher than the chest or the head slightly lower than the trunk.
- Use gloves and tweezers to remove any particles such as dirt from the wound. Do not remove deeply embedded or large objects.
- Apply pressure on the wound with a clean cloth, gauze, or bandage for at least 20 minutes. Check if bleeding has stopped after 20 minutes.
- Bind the wound tightly.
- If blood seeps through the dressing and bindings, cover with more dressing. Do not remove first dressing.
