Candidates that are required to have a current first aid and/or CPR certificate have the opportunity to take first aid and CPR re-certification courses. These courses are designed for people that need to renew expiring or near expiry certificates. Re-cert courses are cheaper and shorter than the original course. To register for a re-cert course near you click here. The availability of a re-certification course in your region is dependent on the level of certification. Check with the provider in your region to determine if you meet the requirements and if the re-cert class is available.
First Aid and CPR Re-Certification Eligibility
Candidates that have awards from other providers are eligible for re-certification through the workplace approved as long as they meet the following criteria:
- A previous certification card must be provided before starting the re-certification course.
- The previous awards must have been completed through a credible provider such as St Mark James Training, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or St. Johns Ambulance. Courses completed via online training or through other providers not following “ILCOR” standards will not be accepted for re-certification. Participants in Ontario must present a current St Mark James certificate to be eligible for re-certification.
- The previous certificate must have been completed within the past 3 years. If the certificate has not been completed within the time frame then the candidate must re-take the original course.
- Previous certification cards must be completed within the same country as the re-certification course. First aid and CPR certification is not internationally accredited and can not be transferred from one country to another without approval from the provider.
We strongly encourage participants to read through the prerequisites provided by the training provider in their location to ensure they meet specific provincial requirements.
