What classes are available?
Trainees can choose from a variety of first aid and CPR courses, private classes, and re-certification programs. Three major levels of first aid and CPR training are available. The most popular two-day course is standard first aid which includes CPR and AED. Also referred to as intermediate first aid, this course meets workplace requirements for first aid training for a variety of different workplaces as well as Alberta OH&S. Emergency first aid is also available which is often referred to as basic first aid and takes one day to complete. Standard childcare first aid and CPR level “B” is a two-day course that is popular for participants that work in the daycare/childcare industry. Did You Know?
First aid for chemical burns
- For dry chemicals, brush it off with a piece of cloth (not your hand!) or a similar item.
- Further remove chemicals from the skin by running the injured area under cool, running water for 10 to 20 minutes.
- Remove any article of clothing or accessories that have been contaminated by the chemical.
- Cover the burn loosely with sterile gauze and/or a bandage.
- To relieve pain, run the burn again under cool, running water for several minutes or until the pain lessens or goes away. You can also take ibuprofen, paracetamol, or acetaminophen for pain. Use caution before taking aspirin (don’t use it if you have bleeding wounds as well).
