Did You Know?

Aortic dissection

Aortic dissection is a condition when the aortic wall develops a tear. The aorta is a part of the heart that branches into different arteries to send blood from the heart to different parts of the body. The tear starts in the inner wall, causing blood to enter or surge into the middle layer, separating the inner and middle layers – hence the term dissection. Prolonged high blood pressure, weak aortic walls, and trauma to the chest can all cause aortic dissection.
